Shoreplan Engineering Limited completed detailed engineering design of shoreline treatments at the Etobicoke Motel Strip. The detailed design was a follow up to concepts developed by staff of Shoreplan during an earlier Public Amenity Scheme study in 1989.
The detailed design phase included wave hindcasting, numerical modelling of nearshore waves, including diffraction around an existing headland and beach stability assessment. The results of the REF/DIF 1 Model are shown here.
Shoreline treatments include three distinct sectors. The shoreline in the east part of the site is protected with three cobble beach cells, stabilized with groynes and headlands. The central part of the site is protected with an armourstone seawall. The west and south shores are the tops of the revetments. Many fish habitat improvement structures, such as islands and reefs, are incorporated into the protection works.
